For Las Palmas Elementary in San Clemente, CA. A large population of students at this school are of Latin American descent, so I took inspiration from my trip to Oaxaca. This mural showcases traditional Mexican symmetrical patterns with a modern twist. The font is playful and hand drawn to nod to the energetic and hands-on dynamic of the school. The surrounding pattern includes the school mascot of the sandpipers, as well as the iconic palm trees of San Clemente, plus floral and fauna patterns commonly found in Mexican folk art.
